This February, at AdiValka we celebrated and honoured a day that holds incredible importance to yogis — Mahashivarathri. This day holds utmost important to Shiva, the Adiyogi — the source from which all yoga originated.
Shivarathri itself is a monthly occurrence. The darkest day of the month, it happens on the 14th day of the lunar calendar, the day before the new moon. Mahashivarathri, that happens between Feb and March, is special in the significance it holds for spiritual seekers. It’s the day nature encourages humans towards our spiritual peak, because it is said day of the year when the northern hemisphere of the planet is positioned such that there is a natural upsurge of energy in a human being.
Mahashivarathri is a night and celebration that’s all about transformation. It’s a night to let go of negativity, and allow your inner world to transform, and to bring that world into a healthy balance. One of the key ways we practice this, especially on this night, is by channeling the energies of both Shiva & Shakti.
One of the quintessential characteristics of Shiva and Shakti is that they are said to be in perfect balance — they are the ultimate union of two individuals, of truth & wisdom. Personified, Shiva is known as the adiyogi, the adiguru — the source of yoga, dance and through his dumaroo, sound. Parvati, an incarnation of devi Shakti, completes Shiva, and usually represents fertility, femininity, and devotion. As energies, Shiva symbolizes the eternal, formless, divine principle and Shakti is the manifesting, activating energy. When Shiva and Shakti combine, they form the universal One.
Shivarathri is a night about working towards your highest capacity, a night to embody the essence of Shiva. At AdiValka, we are also remembering and channeling the balanced energy that characterizes the union of Shiva and Shakti. We translate this lesson into our own practices by fashioning garments that promote a sense of balance and positivity in the wearer’s life as well, while simultaneously maintaining a contemporary aesthetic.
As we celebrate the night of Mahashivarathri, and strive to our best selves, we also aim to bring your products that are created from those same values. Not only this, we craft them with the intention of bringing a comfortable, supportive element to your journey.
At AdiValka, we’re honouring this tradition by celebrating the idea of working towards one’s best. Every one of our products is hand-crafted with precision and care to provide to you, the wearer, the best experience of a garment.
