Times of pandemics often cause widespread panic and worry (and understandably so). As a team, we collectively wanted to not only check in with the adifam — global as we are — but also take a minute to reiterate a few ways we can all take care and keep safe during this time. While these periods are a bit worrisome, they are also good times to build in sustainable health habits and practices that improve your overall well being.
Keeping that immunity at an all time high and incorporating protective measures into your lifestyle are of the utmost importance right now.
We did our research and collected a few different, and easily actionable ways to do so right now.
- Staying active (for example, practicing yoga at home), eating healthy, and meditating are paramount.
As per a Harvard study, yoga, meditation & pranayama are “tried and true ways of staying relaxed”, and not letting anxiety take over right now.
2. Adding in natural fibre fabrics into your daily wear.
We also recommend including natural fibre fabrics, and naturally dyed fabrics into your daily wear. Natural fabrics are those made from the fibres of plant seeds, stems and leaves, and are known to be more than purely aesthetic. Indic textiles have a long history of being functional in versatile ways. In the past natural fibre fabrics and naturally dyed fabrics have had their own distinct medicinal benefits, and have played a part in bolstering the health of individuals.
3. Incorporating turmeric into your cooking and eating habits
Turmeric is a known immunity booster and also has antimicrobial properties. Adding this ingredient into your daily food will help keep your body internally strong and resilient.
4. Adding neem leaves into your daily food & daily life
Neem is one of the best antiseptic, antibacterial, and antiviral agents. It cleans your internal system by purifying your blood.
You can also tie neem leaves in front of your house, to the entrances of rooms, and bathrooms.
We also recommend adding neem leaves to the warm water you use while bathing. This is help cleanse your skin and rid the surface of infections.
If it’s feasible, we also recommend “dyeing” i.e. washing some clothes in turmeric water (keep in mind the colour will change) for your daily use. Given its properties, the turmeric will infuse those same characteristics into the clothes.
You can also do the same with neem leaves. Just add some neem leaves into the water you’re using to rinse your clothes and you’re set.
Integrating these daily habits and products into your life are bound to be beneficial not only for the next few months, but also in the future.
Remember to keep in mind WHO’s tips for the next few weeks.
